If you're one of the black hat sellers on Amazon, today will either wake you up or make you very depressed.

The future is obviously AI, but many think that they can still outsmart Amazon through algorithm tricks and keyword-stuffing their images.

It's time to wake up and smell the roses.

So, what exactly happened? Well, Amazon rolled out an absolutely historic Rufus upgrade called "Shopping Memory." You won't see a big announcement from Amazon, but let me try to explain.

Pre-TODAY, Rufus would simply respond to customer questions based on website data and what you are searching for.

That all changed today. NOW, Rufus knows ALL your shopping patterns. This includes ALL your past Amazon orders, how often you order something, how much time you spend on certain listings, which products you have left reviews on, your entire search history, and what you left in your cart and forgot about. Basically, Amazon has become Big Brother in the coolest way possible.

Look, Amazon owns all your shopping data. Personally, I'm OK with this as a customer since I don't want garbage being marketed to me. I'm sure I'm not alone. Is it really a surprise to see Amazon leverage this data to answer customer questions more efficiently?

Bad news for blackhat sellers.

Great news for elite brand owners (most of you).

Long gone are the days of scamming the Amazon algorithm. The future errrr present reality is that Amazon will prioritize your product if you are truly a great product. Rufus is not going to recommend things because of extra-long titles. Rufus is going to bring the best above the fold and allow customers to make the final decision.

This brings up another coming reality. MOST traditional searches will die off. I already see this with my wife. She rarely searches for things the same way she used to. With AI tools, we can use a prompt like "Best ground coffee, made in Italy, with great ratings." Rufus then takes this request and pairs it with everything from Q&A data and customer shopping habits to bring a few strong contenders. Keyword optimization becomes obsolete.

What does this mean for YOU?

Honestly, it's quite simple. The Amazon platform is shifting away from an algorithm focus to a customer journey focus.

Amazon is going to cement itself as the premier destination for shopping online. Everything is going to come down to how you present yourself.

Is your A+ content beautifully designed and tells a story?

Is your product packaging better than everyone else's?

Are you engaging with customer questions and answering every email?

Are you constantly innovating your products and watching your reviews go up?

Are you focused on delivering value and creating customers for life?

For some of you, these will be very hard questions because you thought that throwing your average product in a clear poly bag was going to be sufficient.

The future has zero room for lazy brand owners or cheaters. You will never outsmart AI.

This is a call to do the hard work. Rebrand, redesign, reshoot video, audit customer reviews, innovate with your factory, increase quality assurance, buyer-specific A+, including testimonials in images, a personal founder story, and so much more.
