I can't tell you how many clients and social media followers have asked about what to do next. My answer? WAIT. Yes, wait. Don't make any drastic plans quite just yet. If there's anything I've learned over the years is that making rash decisions in one's business is never a good idea. Need proof? Trump just said this, "China also wants to make a deal, badly, but they don’t know how to get it started. We are waiting for their call. It will happen." In other words, there is deal-making going on at the White House right now and the media is not telling you about it. My guess is that China will come around after they pump their chest out a bit. This is mainly for their propaganda arm to look "strong" to their people. China does not exist without our consumer dominance so I really do think that a deal will get done. If you source in a country not named China, you still might be nervous about the tariffs. I have GREAT news. Vietnam, India, and Taiwan are already in talks to take their tariffs to ZERO. If you moved production to Vietnam from China, you are sitting PRETTY. Going Forward? This isn't a tariff survival plan but more of a future survival plan. And to be honest, much of this advice would have applied years ago but today seems like a great time to review it again. 1- Cut your loser SKUs. I know it's tempting to keep them around for vanity's sake but if it means you have a leaner catalog of products, so be it. This even applies to variations. Cut the bleeders. Be surgical in 2025. 2- Renegotiate your supplier terms. There has never been a more obvious time in human history to negotiate Net 60 terms with your factories. FYI, this means that you don't pay the final payment to your factory until 60 days have passed since the inventory has been in your hands. No more paying that final payment when you ship your goods! This has incredibly attractive implications for your cash flow and right now that is worth its weight in gold. 3- Reduce product packaging by 20%. Yes, you read that right. Tighter, lighter packaging leads to cheaper shipping costs and cheaper FBA fees. I bet if you look at your current packaging, you will find 10+ ways to reduce dead space in your packaging. Get rid of the fluff. Customers could not care less. 4- Launch in Amazon Europe. 99% of my readers have been sleeping on this market for far too long. It's time to embrace Europe and go all in. Amazon's FBA network is built out there now. On top of that, it increases your diversification. if all hell breaks out in America, your brand has a presence in other countries. 5- Embrace virtual bundles on Amazon. In 2025, you need to make it a personal goal to drastically increase your AOV to form a virtual hedge against instability in the world. I cannot tell you how often this comes up on client calls. The answer is always to do it. The future is most definitely NOT bleak like the media wants you to believe. The reality is that the global financial order is changing before our very eyes and I want YOU to be positioned to profit from it. Keep your head down, trim the fat, and be surgical.
