🚀 This Week's Amazon Hack: CES Simplified

CES is a very big deal but the vast majority of Amazon sellers largely ignore this electronics show because they assume Amazon won't be there.

Well, they were there.

If this is news to you, you missed three pretty HUGE updates from Amazon. I'm going to simplify the announcements a bit and tone down the technical jargon.

Announcement #1: Amazon Retail Ad Service

This was arguably the most exciting update from Amazon. If you read my newsletter, you know that I like to joke around and say that Amazon is slowly taking over the world. Well, maybe it's actually the truth...

If you are a 3P seller and exploring direct relationships with other retailers or planning to expand off Amazon in 2025, this is impeccable timing.

Now, non-Amazon websites will be able to implement Amazon's ad tech! This has very obvious implications for you as a 3P seller. Let's say that you are expanding into new markets like Nordstrom or Dick's Sporting Goods. Thanks to this tool, you will now be able to advertise your products on their website. Insane!

So far, Amazon is still testing on a few websites like iHerb and Oriental Trading Company so stay tuned for this to leave Beta.

Announcement #2: Amazon Marketing Cloud Expanded Lookback

Historically, you could only go back 13 months to capture your purchasing data. Now it's 5 years! HUGE!

In a nutshell, this means that you now have unprecedented access to your customer behavior. If you've ever wanted to nail down your Customer Lifetime Value, now you can.

This becomes a hack, especially for you seasonal sellers. With a flood of long-term customer data going back 5 years, you will be able to make more informed decisions about inventory purchases. I'm looking at you July 4th patriotic sellers!

Announcement #3: SQL Generator for Amazon Marketing Cloud

This is where things got really weird in a really good way. Audience segments are king but the problem has always been how to get them dialed in.

The SQL generator solves that. Treat this like an AI agent. You input your desired customer group. I'll use the example "customers who have looked at least two of my listings in the past 30 days but never purchased." AI will then spit out the corresponding SQL query with instructions on how to create it. No coding is required!

What's so cool about this launch is that it effectively reduces your work from hours to minutes. Thanks AI!

Don't get too excited. Much of this is still in Beta so you may or may not have access to it yet.

One thing is obvious, Amazon is going to make it easier and easier to sell your products off Amazon BUT still use their tools. Talk about a genius strategy that prints cash.


🔥 Hot Amazon Seller News: Your Customer, Visualized

Amazon has very few wins these days but one recent one was making Conversion Path Report public.

Historically, this data was only available in Amazon Marketing Cloud. Most sellers weren't using AMC so this is truly a gift to brand owners.

It has always been somewhat of a mystery to 3P sellers how customers have interacted with their ads before making a purchase. It has ALWAYS felt like a "black box."

What really blew my mind is that this report is not limited to just Sponsored Products. It applies to Sponsored Display and DSP as well.

💡 Instead of wondering how your customer found you, now you know whether it was from a single Sponsored Display ad or it was from a video ad that led them to a Sponsored Product ad.

You not only get insights into how they became a customer but you also get a total cost breakdown and metrics for their "customer journey."
