πŸš€ This Week's Amazon Hack: It's Time for a Chat

Well, more like an intervention. Yes, I'm looking at you. Don't play coy. We both know that chances are that if you are reading this, you have yet to take your Shopify website seriously or even think about building your private email list.

Feeling guilty? Good.

All joking aside, this has been on my heart for quite some time now. When I mention email lists on social media, I get nothing but confusion.

Let me clear things up. I'm not talking about anything Amazon today. I'm talking about your Shopify site and how to leverage it to capture emails.

In many ways, it's insanely simple, yet 99% are left feeling confused. How often do you get a pop-up on a DTC website offering 20% off in exchange for your email? Try 99% of the time.

Let's look at what Anker does. They are the top 4 seller on Amazon, but do they neglect their Shopify website and email list building efforts? Of course not.

Go ahead, try it for yourself. Go to Anker's website, and you will get this in your face.

The offer is clear. Sign up to get $20 off in exchange for my email. Easy decision.

The exchange allows Anker to target you on future marketing emails directly to your inbox. This allows them to bypass Amazon entirely and contact you as often as they like.

Do you see where I'm going with this?

Of course you do. Launched a new product on Amazon and want 10,000 of your previous customers to know about it? Email them! Have a special Lightning Deal running and want even more non-Amazon traffic? Email them!

Easily, the biggest benefit is not even Amazon-related. It's the fact that your profit margin on Shopify sales is 10% higher because you're no longer giving Amazon a cut.

You own these emails, so you get to use them as you see fit! It's a beautiful thing. Amazon obviously hates it. This is why they have STRICT rules for your FBA inventory insert cards and expressly forbid you from inviting them to submit their email to you. I will never tell you to break Amazon TOS rules, but I will ALWAYS tell you to fight back outside of Amazon.

Remember, if they can't track it on Amazon, it's fair game!

The Exit Impact

What if I told you that a private email list increased your exit multiple by .1-.5x? Well, you better believe it! I help people sell their entire business, and buyers are always SUPER interested in this data. Amazon is a black box while Shopify is not. Buyers know this and know the value of this data. They are willing to pay you MORE for it, too!

Honestly, it's the most important data about your customers. It's not their conversion rate metric on Amazon. It's their email address.

πŸ”₯ Hot Amazon Seller News: Amazon Greenlights Review Abuse

Amazon zigs, then they zag. Today, they squiggled.

As of August 4, 2025, Amazon will make it OPTIONAL for customers to leave text with their review. That's right! Now, people will be able to leave reviews with ZERO justification.

Brands will have no idea what the negative review is for. Is it a product quality issue? Who knows. Is it an FBA delivery issue? Who knows.
​
This is sheer insanity, and I don't say that lightly. The black hat sellers on Amazon are going to have a heyday with this. They will make it their goal to flood targeted sellers with negative reviews to cause buy-box nightmares.

There is simply no way to track this. No paper trail.
​
Amazon even admits that star-only reviews will not be eligible for appeal via Feedback Manager. Not cool!
​
This is quite possibly Amazon's worst idea EVER. I don't feel like I'm being dramatic. They literally took away a tool that helped sellers know why they received a negative seller rating.

I'm not a fan! What's next? A paid Amazon service to appeal negative seller reviews? Don't make me cry.
