(*everything above is a sponsored ad, get yours here!) π This Week's Amazon Hack: An Insert Card Refresher It seems like every year, there is more and more misinformation regarding insert cards for your product on Amazon. My goal is that we can clear things up a bit today. So, what is an insert card? I bet most of you know, but if this is a new concept to you, an insert card is typically a thick card stock insert that a customer sees right when they open your product. Most of the time, they are used in non-compliant ways. I'm sure you've seen this. My favorite no-no is when a seller asks for a 5-star review if they had a great experience, and anything less, the customer is instructed to email them to resolve their issue. This is what is called an If-Then manipulation tactic. Very effective, BUT very illegal. I could go on and on today and give you examples of what NOT to do, but that would be a waste of your time. Instead, here's what you SHOULD do in 2025. Make your insert card all about branding. When I say branding, I'm talking about making your brand name "stick" in people's minds. A smartly worded insert card asking for a review on Amazon will result in an average of a 5-7% review rate. If you sell 1,000 units, you can expect to see 50-70 organic, verified Amazon reviews. Pretty awesome stat! You can take the simple approach: Or the brand story approach: I actually really like both of these examples, but what you end up doing will depend on your customer avatar. Know thy customer! An insert card is such a practical way to share your brand's core identity with your customers. Not only does Amazon allow you to do this in ALL your products, but they ENCOURAGE it as long as you follow the rules. Important Tip! Never, I repeat, never attempt to take customers off Amazon. I see brand owners get in trouble for this all the time. Amazon is kind of creepy when it comes to their customer data, and of course, they want them to buy your products on Amazon and not on Shopify. Makes sense. Not fair, but we must play by their rules at the end of the day. One last thing. You can change these insert cards at any time. When I'm consulting my clients, it's common for me to recommend a 2-step insert card schedule. During the first 6-12 months, the focus of the insert card is getting people to leave Amazon reviews. After that, the insert card changes to a focus on getting the customer to follow social media channels and create a post with a tag. Social media is the ONLY exception to Amazon's strict rule about keeping them on Amazon. They care more about losing them to your Shopify. An important thing to keep in mind. Jeff Bezos is building a $42 million 10,000-year clock in Texas. Yes, you read that right. What a way to burn through $42 million! I actually kind of chuckled when I first read this story because it sounded like fake news. It's as real as apple pie.
